GCSE English Language: Targeted Revision

A focused Paper 2 course for students who want to improve their marks

Why many students revise English Language but don’t see their marks improve

Many students revise English Language by completing past papers, yet their marks remain stubbornly similar.

For parents, this can be particularly frustrating. Unlike content-heavy subjects, it is often unclear what effective English Language revision should look like, or whether the work being done is actually helping a student improve.

As a GCSE English examiner, I see the same patterns repeatedly. Students write plenty, but their arguments are not always clearly shaped. They spot techniques, but struggle to develop ideas. They understand each text individually, but find comparison difficult to handle confidently under time pressure.

This course was designed to address those problems directly.

In this video, I explain:

  • why past-paper revision alone often stalls progress

  • the most common Paper 2 issues examiners see

  • who this course is designed for, and who it is not
What this course does differently
GCSE English Language: Targeted Revision focuses on the specific skills that make the biggest difference to Paper 2.
Rather than asking students to work through paper after paper and hope for improvement, the course provides clear, structured teaching on:
The lessons are short, practical, and focused. Students are shown not just what to do, but how to apply it in exam conditions.
This course is designed for students who:
It is not a replacement for school teaching, and it is not designed for students who require one-to-one tuition or significant intervention.
By working through the course, students typically move from:

Unfocused revision

→ to targeted revision directed at the areas that make the biggest difference to marks

Writing without a clear plan

→ to targeted revision directed at the areas that make the biggest difference to marks Writing without a clear plan

Spotting techniques but struggling to explain them

→ to developing ideas clearly and confidently

Understanding texts but finding comparison difficult

→ to structuring comparative responses with clarity

Writing a lot without seeing improvement

→ to writing more efficiently and purposefully

Uncertainty about what examiners reward

→ to a clearer understanding of how marks are awarded and why

For parents, this often brings reassurance that revision time is being used effectively and in line with real exam expectations.
This is a self-access course, allowing students to work at their own pace while maintaining a clear sense of structure.
For some students, working through the course independently will be enough.
Others benefit from having their work checked to ensure they are applying the guidance accurately. For that reason, optional examiner-marked assessments are available alongside the course.
These include:
This option provides reassurance and clarity, particularly for students who want confirmation that their approach is sound.
